On 24 November, UCLouvain welcomed Dr. Stella Falzone (Österreichische Akademie der Wissenschaften) as a visiting scholar. On this occasion, she presented a lecture in the framework of the ARC OsTIUM, entitled "Living with the Muses. A cultural model in Roman houses, between East and West". The conference focused on the transfer dynamics of images and techniques of Roman mural painting in the provinces of the Empire. Ostia, as a privileged reflection of Rome, offers extremely valuable pictorial evidence, as it shows how an iconographic model (in this case the painted series of the Muses with Apollo) can be born in central Italy and spread capillarilly in the West and in the East, adapting to the taste of the patrons and to the practices of the local painters' workshops.
